Alleging anomalies in farmer’s PM report, scores of farmers from Terai region leave for Lakhimpur Kheri

Bhonpuram Khabari, Rudrapur. : A day after staging a massive protest against

minister of state Ajay Mishra and his son, scores of farmers from Udham Singh Nagar have left for Lakhimpur Kheri. Sahab Singh Sekhon, district president of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chaduni) said that the senior leaders have called the farmers as there are reports that the postmortem reports of the deceased farmers are being fudged by the UP police and also that the minister Mishra is trying to influence the police investigation. “The bereaved family of Lovepreet Singh, the young farmer in his twenties, who died of a bullet shot, has decided not to hold his last rituals till they are not handed over the autopsy report”, Sekhon said.

On the other hand, the president of the Terai Kisan Mahasabha (TKM), Tejender Singh Virk, who was grievously injured in the incident and underwent a head surgery in a multi specialty hospital in Gurugram on Tuesday, has released a 50-second video message alleging that the UP government is hatching conspiracy to kill him. Also, after this disarray, the ‘Kisan Mahapanchayat’ proposed to be chaired by Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) leader Rakesh Tikait, in Jaspur town of the district on Wednesday (October 6) is under risk of being canceled.

Talking toTOI, Sekhon said that a meeting was held at Nawabganj Gurudwara Sahib and a cavalcade of over hundred cars, led by Baba Anoop Singh, the head of the Dera, left for Lakhimpur after receiving calls from the senior leaders that the autopsy report has been prevaricated by the UP police. “We are seeking a fair investigation in the matter and also strict actions against minister Mishra and his son Ashish. But the UP police on the BJP government’s behest, despite in an agreement with SKM leader Tikait, is trying to dissolve the brutal murder case. We will not tolerate any kind of injustice and will carry our protest further with full resistance”, Sekhon added.

Jitendra Singh, the state president of the youth wing of BKU, said that the BJP government of UP will have to face the wrath of the farmer community if they do not stick to the promises they made to SKM leaders. “We will refuse the compensation and the government job offered to the family of the deceased farmers if the accused are not handled as per the course of law”, Singh added.

Meanwhile, the Jaspur farmers preparing for the proposed ‘kisan mahapanchayat’ on Wednesday, are left in lurch as the meeting was to be chaired by Rakesh Tikait, who still is in Lakhimpur and the matter has worsened.

Devendra Singh, a farmer from JAspur, talking toi TOI, said, “Leader of Sanyukt Kisan Morcha from Delhi, Rakesh Tikait, has to attend the event. The mahapanchayat is proposed to bring awareness amongst farmers of Jaspur and nearby UP that apart from the withdrawal of the three farm laws, we also want the Centre to enact a law to ensure minimum support price (MSP) guarantee for agricultural produce. But after today’s turmoil we are not sure if the meeting will be held as scheduled,” he said.

While in a video released from a hospital in Gurugram, Tejender Singh Virk alleged that the UP{ government is trying to kill him. “Shots were fired at me after being run over by car but I had a narrow escape. It is all government’s conspiracy which is now trying to frame me under a fabricated case”, Virk has said.
